Understanding Paths in SeamScape™

SeamScape provides four types of paths to give you the tools needed for dynamic and creative pattern drafting. Here’s an overview:

Lines

  • Lines are shaped by exactly two path points, defining a straight path from one to the other.

Curves

  • Curves are made up of cubic Bézier segments, shaped by two or more path points, each with a handle for precise control.

Arcs

  • Arcs are sections of a circle or ellipse, defined by a center point, start point, an end point.
  • A second radius can be provided to form an ellipse
  • A closed arc will become a circle or ellipse
  • Arc can also be defined by three points, also known as a three-point arc

Instanced paths

  • Instanced paths are instances of other paths. They mirror changes in the original and are invaluable for symmetrical or repeated designs.
  • Excellent for mirroring, rotating, or reusing specific path segments in new ways

Example 1: An instance of path A0 to A1 is connected to A1

Example 2: Instances of original path, divided into segments, and rotated 30 degrees

All paths in SeamScape are fully dynamic and can be constrained by length, position, and angle using values or formulas.
