Getting started
What is SeamScape?
SeamScape is a browser-based platform for digital pattern drafting, parametric garment design, 3D pattern visualization, nesting, and textile cutting workflows.
Who is SeamScape for?
SeamScape is built for patternmakers, apparel teams, made-to-measure businesses, students, hobbyists, and production teams that need a modern digital workflow from pattern creation to cutting.
Do I need to install SeamScape?
No. Pattern Studio and the public SeamScape pages run in the browser. Some advanced production workflows may depend on your organization setup, browser capabilities, hardware, or connected cutting equipment.
Is SeamScape free to use?
The Creator plan gives individual users free access to Pattern Studio, including cloud-based pattern drafting, pattern storage, PDF export, and common import/export workflows. Enterprise features are handled separately.
Do I need a credit card to start?
No credit card is required to start using the free Pattern Studio experience. Paid or enterprise workflows may ask for billing details when they are used.
Pattern Studio
What is Pattern Studio?
Pattern Studio is SeamScape’s digital pattern drafting workspace. It lets you create pattern geometry, define pieces, add measurements and variables, and update patterns parametrically.
What does parametric pattern drafting mean?
Parametric drafting means the pattern can be driven by measurements, variables, formulas, and geometric constraints. When a value changes, connected points, paths, and pieces can update without redrawing the pattern from scratch.
Can SeamScape patterns use body measurements?
Yes. SeamScape patterns can use measurement values and formulas so one pattern can adapt to different bodies, sizes, or design inputs. A pattern can also be graded industrially: a size range built from a base size with per-size changes, grade rules, size series such as Regular and Tall, and measurement checks per size.
Does Pattern Studio support seam allowance?
Yes. Pattern pieces support seam allowance, including workflows where the main path represents the seam boundary or where the seam allowance is included in the cut boundary. Each edge can have its own seam allowance, which can also taper from one end of the edge to the other.
Does SeamScape support notches, drill holes, and corner handling?
Yes. SeamScape includes pattern-piece details such as notches, drill holes, internal paths, rounded corners, and several seam corner types, including folded hem corners, for more production-ready pattern pieces.
Can I share patterns with other people?
Yes. SeamScape supports public pattern sharing and organization-based sharing, with controls that keep publishing intentional.
Is there a public pattern library?
SeamScape includes public pattern workflows so users can explore shared patterns and publish their own patterns when they choose to do so.
3D and BodyDouble
What is SeamScape 3D?
SeamScape 3D is a browser-based garment visualization tool connected to Pattern Studio. It places pattern pieces on an avatar, drapes them with fabric simulation and shows a fit map of where the fabric is tight, so teams can check fit before cutting fabric.
Is SeamScape 3D production-ready?
SeamScape 3D is ready for fit checks and pattern visualization. The simulation runs on the graphics card through WebGPU, so it needs a recent Chrome, Edge or Safari. As with any 3D tool, physical samples and professional judgment remain important for production decisions.
What do I need to run SeamScape 3D?
You need a modern browser and a computer with suitable graphics support. SeamScape provides a browser test so you can check whether your device is ready for the 3D viewer.
What is BodyDouble?
BodyDouble is a SeamScape tool for creating a 3D body double from measurements. It can be used inside Pattern Studio workflows or as a standalone tool for teams that need body-aware design checks.
Cutting, nesting, and production
What is Cutting Room?
Cutting Room is SeamScape’s production-focused cutting workflow. It is designed for single-layer cutting, camera-based material capture, nesting after image capture, and more efficient use of irregular or patterned material.
Does Cutting Room work with my cutting machine?
Cutting Room is designed to work with many cutting machines and standard cuttable export workflows. Exact compatibility depends on the machine, file format, production setup, and integration needs.
Why does SeamScape capture the material before nesting?
Capturing the material first lets Cutting Room create a marker based on the actual fabric shape, alignment, visible flaws, and pattern placement constraints instead of assuming a perfect rectangular roll.
Can SeamScape handle checks, stripes, and patterned fabrics?
Yes. Cutting Room includes workflows for pattern recognition and piece-to-piece matching so checks, stripes, and repeating motifs can be considered during cutting preparation.
Files, exports, and integrations
Which file formats does SeamScape support?
Pattern Studio supports common pattern workflows including PDF export for printing, DXF import and export, SVG workflows, and additional export paths for specific production and preview use cases. ASTM/AAMA DXF files can be imported as editable pieces, with all sizes from a RUL grade rule file, and graded patterns can be exported as ASTM/AAMA DXF with a RUL file.
Can I print patterns from SeamScape?
Yes. Pattern Studio includes high-quality PDF export for printing, so patterns can move from browser-based drafting to physical pattern work.
Does SeamScape have an API?
Yes. SeamScape provides API documentation for pattern, nesting, BodyDouble, and MCP workflows. API use is especially relevant for custom generation, integration, automation, and enterprise workflows.
What is the SeamScape MCP workflow?
The MCP workflow lets API-connected tools create, load, inspect, modify, export, and save pattern sessions through a controlled SeamScape pattern interface.
Accounts, pricing, and support
Does SeamScape store my patterns in the cloud?
Yes. A free account includes cloud storage for patterns so you can access your work from the browser. Organization and enterprise workflows may add team-level access and sharing controls.
Does SeamScape support teams and organizations?
Yes. SeamScape includes organization workflows for sharing patterns and managing team-oriented production access. Enterprise setups can be tailored to business workflows.
What is included in SeamScape Enterprise?
Enterprise is for businesses that need advanced integration, team collaboration, API access, Cutting Room technology, nesting, cutting-machine workflows, and tailored support.
How do I get help or share feedback?
You can contact the SeamScape team by email or join the community discussion on Reddit. Feedback is especially useful when it describes the patternmaking or production workflow you are trying to improve.
Where can I see what changed in SeamScape?
The SeamScape changelog lists release notes for Pattern Studio and the broader platform, including new features, fixes, import/export improvements, and workflow changes.
