SeamScape Changelog

Browse every release of Pattern Studio and the SeamScape platform. We keep these notes updated so your team can track what changed before you open the studio.

v1.4.3 10/25/2026

1.4.3 - Copy Pieces Between Patterns and Snap to Grid

  • Copy a piece in one pattern and paste it into another, also in another browser tab. The pasted piece is standalone with a fixed shape: it keeps its seam allowance, notches and labels, but does not follow the new pattern's measurements or sizes.
  • Pieces with darts, and rotated pieces scaled differently across and along, can still only be pasted in their own pattern. You are told when copying.
  • Snap to grid in the View menu now works when clicked. It is always listed, and turning it on also shows the grid.
v1.4.2 10/24/2026

1.4.2 - Edit Imported Notches and Grain Direction

  • Select an editable piece's notch reference point to change Notch size directly, including red sliding points without a separate notch endpoint.
  • Select several pieces to set their Grain angle together or Reverse grain direction by 180 degrees. The pieces themselves do not move, and grain formulas are kept.
  • Make editable preserves the imported piece's current grain direction, including angles set before conversion.
  • Fixed and editable pieces can be changed together, with undo and redo for each bulk grain change.
v1.4.1 10/21/2026

1.4.1 - Preserve Imported Markings and Notches

  • HPGL imports retain enclosed dart drawings as non-cutting internal markings.
  • Making an imported piece editable preserves open sew-style markings and retraced marks in its sew outline.
  • Edge notches drawn out and back inside an imported contour are preserved. Short, straight inward notches become editable notches with their original length; longer and angled cuts keep their drawn geometry.
  • Imported notch lengths can be changed in their own Notch size field. Drawn markings do not automatically become drill holes.

Previously lost geometry needs to be reimported from the original file; opening an older saved conversion does not recreate it.

v1.4.0 10/13/2026

1.4.0 - Pins and Clearer Dragging in 3D

Thank you for the feedback on SeamScape 3D. This release adds two things you asked for and fixes pieces losing their 3D settings. Keep it coming: use Help → File bug report or Help → Feature request.

  • Added pins. Right-click the fabric in 3D and choose Pin here to hold that spot where it is while the rest of the piece drapes, for example to stand in for a waistband you have not drafted yet. Pins are saved with the pattern and shown in both 2D and 3D. Right-click a pin to remove it.
  • Dragging the fabric while it drapes now shows the spot you are holding and how far around it the fabric is pulled along, in both 2D and 3D.
  • Dragging pulls a smaller part of the fabric along, which makes small adjustments easier.
  • Fixed pieces with Enable in 3D mode turned off coming back enabled after undo or reopening the pattern.
  • Fixed a piece losing its placement on the body and its drape when it was turned off in 3D and on again later.
v1.3.2 10/8/2026

1.3.2 - Placement of Copied Drafts

  • Independent copies of construction geometry with X/Y formulas now stay at their pasted position instead of snapping back to the original location.
  • Copied formulas retain their measurement and geometry references without applying the placement offset twice to internal dependencies.
v1.3.1 10/5/2026

1.3.1 - Notches, Fold Lines and Draft Copying

  • Fixed corner notches on mirrored pieces so they follow the selected reference point. Please check existing corner notches if you previously selected a different point to compensate for their placement.
  • Fixed selecting lines when adding an internal path to a moved or rotated piece. A mirror line can also be used as an internal fold line.
  • Independent copies of construction geometry now retain saved point and curve-handle grading when placed.
v1.3.0 9/30/2026

1.3.0 - SeamScape 3D Is Out of Beta

SeamScape 3D is no longer in beta. Draping a pattern on a body is now fast, simple and a full part of Pattern Studio. We would love to hear how it works for you: use Help → File bug report or Help → Feature request.

  • Added Place on body, which puts every waiting piece on the avatar in one click. It reads where the piece was drafted, its name (front, back, sleeve, collar, cuff, waistband, pocket and more, in several languages) and how the pieces are sewn together. New and mirrored pieces are placed as you create them, and placed pieces fly onto the body.
  • Draping now follows your pattern live: drag a point in 2D while the garment drapes and the fabric follows without restarting. When the drape has settled and every seam is closed, it rests and is saved with the pattern.
  • Added a Fit map that colours the garment by how much the fabric stretches, from loose to too tight.
  • Added quick fabrics (cotton poplin, denim, jersey, linen, silk satin and wool suiting), a colour picker and Use for all pieces. Fabric now shows its weave or knit up close, and a slightly paler wrong side.
  • Added avatar poses, Studio, Contrast, Warm and Flat lighting, Save image and a 6-second Turntable video.
  • Opening an example now swings the camera around the avatar and drapes the garment in front of you. An empty 3D pattern shows how to get started, and the example list can show only 3D garments.
  • Sewing is simpler: the second edge of a seam is sewn the right way round on the body, and the seam tool stays active for the next seam.
  • Hovering a piece in 2D or 3D now highlights it in the other view.
  • Draping is up to twice as fast, editing a draped piece updates 3D sooner, and slower computers switch to faster rendering automatically.
  • Fixed the 3D view sometimes staying empty or not reacting to the fabric after switching 3D off and on.
v1.2.18 9/27/2026

1.2.18 - Industrial Grading and Editable Pieces

  • Reworked grading into a size range built from a base size: each size keeps its own changes, the base size can be swapped, and edits to the base can either carry over to all sizes or change the base only.
  • Added the Sizes & grading dialog with grade rule tables and rule tools, size series such as Regular and Tall that are graded separately, measurement checks per size, and a Size geometry panel with grade vectors drawn on the canvas.
  • Added ASTM/AAMA DXF export with grade rules and a RUL file, including graded notches, sew lines and internal lines.
  • Added pieces that are edited directly on the piece: draw a new piece with Draw new piece (D) or drag out a rectangle with New rectangular piece (R), and edit each edge's seam allowance, corners and notches in place.
  • DXF files can now be imported as editable pieces, and an ASTM/AAMA DXF with a RUL file brings in all its sizes. Imported fixed pieces can be made editable afterwards.
  • Added Detach from draft, which gives a piece built from the draft its own copy of the geometry, and rotation and flipping of such pieces in every size.
  • Added seam allowance that tapers along an edge and folded hem corners.
v1.2.17 7/28/2026

1.2.17 - Safer Pattern Work, Improved 3D, and Expanded Exports

  • Added safer recovery for unsaved Pattern Studio work, with separate recovery per browser workspace and warnings before a pattern is replaced or discarded.
  • Reworked the 3D arrangement workflow with clearer placement guidance, easier piece selection between 2D and 3D, improved framing, and clearer cloth-side and seam feedback.
  • Improved live 3D editing so arranged and simulated pieces stay synchronized while patterns move, measurements change, and geometry is updated.
  • Added BodyDbl 3D model exports in OBJ, STL, and GLB through new Personal and Studio Export Passes.
  • Added export of a selected saved size or all saved sizes to DXF and SVG, with all-size exports packaged as a ZIP file.

v1.1.0 11/28/2025

Version 1.1.0

SeamScape 3D — Beta Release

We're excited to introduce SeamScape 3D, our new in-browser cloth simulation within Pattern Studio.

It's built with one focus: fit verification and pattern visualization, helping you save time and avoid surprises before making your real sample.

Cloth simulation is extremely hard, and nothing is ever perfect, but we've tuned SeamScape 3D with stable default settings that work for most cases. All you need is a modern browser and a decent GPU. To check if your computer is up for it, you can test your browser here: https://seamscape.com/browser-3d-test

This is just the first step, and we'll keep improving the physics and adding new features as we go. We'd love your feedback along the way.

PS: There's no user manual yet — just jump in and explore!
